Your First Meeting

1. Set up transcription

Open Settings → Speech, select your preferred model (e.g., Apple Speech or local Qwen3-ASR), configure language options, and run the built-in test.

• Local Qwen3-ASR: Must complete its one-time local download before use.
• Cloud models: Require a valid API key with active quota.

2. Configure AI notes & summaries

Transcription functions independently, but automatic titles, structured summaries, and interactive chat require an AI model. Open Settings → AI, add a provider, enter credentials, select a model, and click Verify before saving. See Connect an AI provider.

3. Record a 30-second test

1. Join a call or play sample audio in your browser.
2. Start a new recording in Kapinote.
3. Speak into your microphone while audio plays through your speakers.
4. Verify that live transcript segments appear for both sides of the conversation.
5. Stop the recording after roughly 30 seconds.

If audio from either your microphone or remote participants is missing, consult Troubleshooting before an important meeting.

4. Review and edit the meeting record

Once processing finishes, open the meeting:

• Review & Refine: Edit the title and customize the generated structured notes.
• Verify Evidence: Inspect transcript segments to double-check names, numbers, and decisions.
• Export: Copy notes as clean Markdown to paste into Notion, Obsidian, Slack, or email.
• Chat: Ask focused questions in meeting chat; answers cite verbatim transcript timestamps.

5. Search and cross-meeting workflows

• Global Search: The home screen search matches titles, AI summaries, and verbatim transcript text.
• Cross-meeting Chat: Select multiple meetings in global chat, type @ to attach specific meeting context, and type / to apply reusable templates.
